FusionHealth and Southeastern Freight Lines to Present at IHC Forum

Dr. Jeffrey Durmer and John Pryor Join Forces to Discuss How to Stop Sleep Apnea from Robbing Your Company While You Sleep

FusionHealth, the leading provider of sleep health management solutions that improve employee health and wellness, today announced a joint presentation by Dr. Jeffrey Durmer, Chief Medical Officer FusionHealth, and John Pryor, Vice President, Human Resources and Safety, Southeastern Freight Lines. The presentation will be provided at the Institute for Healthcare Consumerism’s FORUM East Conference at the Cobb Galleria Center in Atlanta, Georgia on May 8th. FusionHealth is a Silver Sponsor this year of the “HealthCare Consumerism: The Solution for HealthCare Reform” Conference. The IHC is dedicated to innovative health and benefit management for health and benefits professionals from employers, brokers and health plan providers.

Dr. Durmer and John Pryor will explain how sleep apnea is exposing companies to significant risk associated with healthcare costs, productivity and safety, and how the FusionHealth solution provided Southeastern Freight Lines with the necessary results to fully expand the program.

“FusionHealth has enabled us to address the critical issue of sleep apnea and its powerful effect among our commercial drivers without a significant productivity loss to our business,” stated John Pryor. “Their innovative solution allowed us to provide consistent level of care, medical acumen to our drivers that has delivered measurable results.”

By request of the Institute for Healthcare Consumerism, FusionHealth was asked to address the assembly concerning the impact of sleep apnea on health, and the risk it poses to productivity, safety and the reputation of employers throughout the world. “Over 80% of people with sleep disorders, like sleep apnea, do not know they have a chronic sleep problem”, stated Dr. Jeffrey Durmer, CMO and Co-Founder of FusionHealth. “The effect of undiagnosed sleep apnea on a workforce cuts across organizations by increasing healthcare costs, fatigue related accidents, productivity loss and legal exposure”. The Institute for Healthcare Consumerism highlights leading solution providers who are actively working to solve the most pressing issues in health and benefits.

“We are excited to be able to share some of our findings and the success of our client at the IHC FORUM Conference, and proud to have our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Durmer present together with John Pryor,” stated Sigurjon Kristjansson, CEO and Co-Founder of FusionHealth. “Southeastern Freight Lines has certainly demonstrated its leadership in promoting health and safety to its employees by the way they have addressed the critical issue of sleep apnea among their drivers.”

During the same time period, the individually matched control group’s medical and pharmacy costs increased 16%.

Early Success in Sleep Trials with J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc.

Early Success in Sleep Trials with J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. SleepSafeDrivers, Inc., a national provider of sleep apnea diagnosis and treatment programs for fleets, today announced positive preliminary results from a clinical trial focused on testing and treating fatigue management for truck drivers with sleep apnea as part of a national contract with J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. The clinical trial is a collaborative effort among J.B. Hunt, SleepSafeDrivers, Inc., and FusionSleep LLC, Georgia’s leading provider of clinical sleep medicine services to patients and employers.

The goal of the trial, which is backed by an Independent Review Board, is to improve the health and safety of the drivers. The trial results will document any cost savings from reduced medical expenses and lower accidents as a consequence of the program. J.B. Hunt is accelerating the pace of the trial and expects to continue expanding the program over time.

“We are committed to enhancing the safety and health of our drivers, and SleepSafeDrivers is helping us get that done,” said Greer Woodruff, Senior Vice President of Corporate Safety and Security at J.B. Hunt. “One of our Million Mile drivers recently told us that he felt the sleep apnea program had literally saved his life. After starting APAP therapy, that driver has lost 115 pounds, knocked out his challenging and chronic daytime fatigue, and was able to begin exercising again for the first time in years. There is absolutely no doubt that he is healthier and safer as a result of the program.”

“We are proud to be helping J.B. Hunt deliver on their goal of improving the health of their drivers while also reducing avoidable risk and expenses,” stated Dana Voien, president of SleepSafeDrivers. “Working with our clinical partners at FusionSleep in Atlanta, we are confident that fleets will recognize a four to ten month payback period on the program investment, so it more than pays for itself in the first year alone. Our national network assures that we can cover a fleet’s entire needs across the nation.”

“The goal of the trial is to quantify the health benefits and document changes in fatigue-related accidents and safety as a consequence of this unique program. Preliminary findings already demonstrate real and significant health benefits, and we anticipate that this research will provide us with the most comprehensive data and cost-effective model for disease and accident prevention in the trucking industry”, said Jeffrey Durmer, MD, PhD, and Chief Medical Officer of FusionSleep and principal investigator of the clinical trial.
